Apple Set to Cause Charging Cord Chaos Again: New iPhone 15 is Said to be Switching to USB-C Port When it Releases Later This Year — So What Other New Features Can You Expect?

Apple is still months away from launching its new smartphone, but rumours flooding the web could reveal the latest features of the iPhone 15 ahead of the event. A game-changing titanium alloy frame, a larger batter and a USB-C charging port are just some of the many predictions made by tech experts.

The change to its charging port is bound to be controversial, given the company’s history of switching cords and forcing consumers to purchase its proprietary versions. Along with added features, Apple is also suggested to unleash new colours into the mix –  including some of the previous fan favourites.

The Cupertino-based company has not announced when it will release the new iPhone 15 family, but the event is typically held in September. Apple never shares details of its upcoming iPhone before the official unveiling, but tech experts and patents usually give away what to expect.

The most expensive iPhone Pro model yet

However, not all tips are exciting –  the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be more expensive than previous Pro models. Apple analyst Jeff Pu revealed in May that a price increase is on the horizon due to the Pro models featuring titanium frames and an A17 Bionic chip.

Pu did not reveal exact price tags, it is worth noting that last year’s iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max started at £1,099/$999 and £1,199/$1,099, respectively. Pu’s predictions – which were allegedly detailed in a document seen by – corroborate an unverified by a user called ‘Technology window’. The Weibo post said: ‘Apple will increase the price of this year’s iPhone 15 Pro series, further widening the gap with the iPhone 15 Plus.’

The iPhone 15 will be available in new colours

The rumours and mock-ups were shared by 9to5Mac, which reports on Apple updates and discovered rumours of the new colours in a recent post on Weibo. The crimson shade is believed to be lighter than the deep purple launched with the iPhone 14 but is still ‘very deep.’

And light green was released with the iPhone 13 lineup, but the upcoming shade could be darker – closer to a mint colour. The pink shade is a deeper pink described as an ‘element,’ and the light blue is ‘picton blue.’ However, the ‘exclusive’ dark red colour will only be available for the iPhone 15 Pro and mint green for the flagship and iPhone 15 Plus smartphones.

According to 9to5Mac’s source, the information on the colour options is ‘still early’ and ‘could change’ closer to the fall, so the colours shared could be off. And Apple tests multiple colours of new iPhone models before they are released.

A shatterproof design, USB-C charging port and solid-state volume button

The increased price could be due to the new titanium design, which can handle higher temperatures better than steel and offers similar protection against water damage. Titanium can handle higher temperatures better than steel too, while also offering a similar level of protection against water damage.

Footage of an iPhone 15 Pro ‘dummy’ was leaked in April and surfaced on the Chinese version of TikTok. A titanium-based frame was also shown on this prototype, alongside a new solid-state volume button replacing the mute switch. If proven true, this would be the first time Apple has changed the button since the iPhone’s launch in 2007, likely allowing users to toggle with its sensitivity.

The dummy also included a USB-C charging port in place of the usual Lightning port. This alteration follows previous talk from Apple’s executive Greg Joswiak who said that the tech giant was ‘having to comply’ with new USB laws passed by the EU. With that in mind, it’s already publicly known that the company is replacing its own Lightning charging technology – discernible by its eight pins – with USB-C in EU countries.

He previously said: ‘Obviously, we’ll have to comply; we have no choice, just as we do around the world to comply with local laws. ‘But we think the approach would have been better environmentally and better for our customers to not have a government be that prescriptive.’

The iPhone 15 will have a larger battery

An alleged Foxconn worker, the company that manufactures a bulk of Apple’s iPhones, told ItHome today that the iPhone 15 family is set to have larger batteries. The iPhone 15 will feature an 18 per cent larger battery, iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro a 14 per cent larger battery, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max a 12 per cent larger battery.

This means the iPhone 15 could have a 3877mAh capacity, iPhone 15 Plus 4912mAh, iPhone 15 Pro 3650mAh and iPhone 15 Pro Max could have 4852mAh. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are believed to feature the A16 Bionic processor, while the Pro and Max will have the new A17 Bionic chip Apple announced in June.
