Bahrain: Increased Customs Violations Recorded in 2019
The total number of customs seizures and violations amounted to 1958 in 2019 with an increase of 26% compared to 2018.
About details of the violations seized, the department revealed that 1221 seizures consisted of pills and anaesthetics, and 407 cases and violations related to customs declaration, documents, and summary procedures, while 117 seizures consisted of tobacco and its derivatives seizures.
Customs Affairs President Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa pointed out that the role played by customs affairs is decisive in thwarting smuggling of all kinds. He noted that modern technologies were being used to carry out the required tasks with high professionalism, including the use of security surveillance camera systems in all border crossings and points.
